2011 harvest and HOMEwinemaking

It’s a thrill and a privilege for us to make lovingly hand-crafted wine from our own vineyard. We’ve come a long way from our first homewinemaking attempt in 2002 using syrah grapes we purchased from Russian River. That batch of 200 pounds was crushed in our Los Altos backyard with (Deb’s) feet; every step was done with a book open and there were plenty of “OMG!” moments.

We’ve learned that great wine comes from great fruit, and by helping nature take its course from crush through fermentation and barrel aging with minimal intervention -- just care and meticulously documenting and measuring the steps of the process.

Here are the photos from harvest/winemaking for this year’s vintage of The Odyssey, our blend of cabernet, syrah and grenache. We were so glad to have family here to help... Cheers!
