2009 harvest and winemaking

It’s a thrill and a privilege for us to make lovingly hand-crafted wine from our own vineyard. We’ve come a long way from our first homewinemaking attempt in 2002 using syrah grapes we purchased from Russian River. That batch of 200 pounds was crushed in our Los Altos backyard with (Deb’s) feet; every step was done with a book open and there were plenty of “OMG!” moments. And the wine wasn’t very good either!

We’ve learned that great wine comes from great fruit, and by helping nature take it’s course from crush through fermentation and barrel aging with minimal intervention -- just care and meticulously documenting the process.

Here are the photos from 4 parts of our harvest and winemaking in 2009: the syrah rosé, the syrah component of The Odyssey, the commercial syrah harvest for our winery client, and finally, the cabernet sauvignon complement for The Odyssey. Cheers!
