Spring
News
- Vines:
Vine pruning is a distant memory, budbreak of
the grapevines has come and gone, and during
this time of year, the shoots are growing at
a rate of 6" to a foot each week. So while
the ground cover has quickly browned out, the
vines have just as quickly greened up!
- Sheep:
Three
new lambs were born into our flock of babydoll
sheep: Dewey, Bucky, and Farley Junior. They've
been quick studies and have been munching down
the weeds and grasses right alongside the adults.
And they're really cute (especially
one-eared Junior!)
- Wines:
Our 2007 syrah rosé
has been a big hit at home and with our friends
and family. The 2007 vintage of The Odyssey,
our syrah-cabernet blend is still aging in oak
barrels. A taste of a barrel sample at the end
of April was promising.
- Cheers:
We've shared our wine at home and on the road
with friends and family, who have enjoyed it
as much as we have, and we have lots of new
pictures to prove it!
- Farming:
John has added vineyard spraying to his list
of core competencies. He's also outgrown the
KFV farm equipment storage capacity and is breaking
ground before the end of May on a detached garage
to be sited just above the lower vineyard. The
vegetable garden is flourishing and the chickens
have made themselves right at home. And have
you heard about the KFV "guest worker"
program?!
